Day of Action 2016 Tops Record

Day of Action groupThe final count is in! Together, with our community partners, we collected 39,990 books for the annual United Way of Rhode Island and Books Are Wings Children’s Book Drive. Participation in this statewide collection effort continues to grow each year. In the last five years, we’ve collected 126,550 books.

That’s over 100,000 books headed to children in summer learning programs across the state!

On Saturday, June 18, we had a total of 119 corporate and community volunteers join us for Day of Action, contributing a total of 500 hours of service in ONE day! We couldn’t have collected, sorted, and packed the quantity of books without everyone’s help.

Everyone volunteers for different reasons: to help children fall in love with reading or to help children avoid summer learning loss. But everyone joins because they want to help! Don’t take our word for it, check out what a few of our volunteers had to say:
