October 28: Trail of Tricks and Treats Volunteer Event

Trick or treat — it’s your choice

With Halloween fast approaching, our thoughts turn to tricks, treats, and everything scary. United Way of Rhode Island, in partnership with ONE Neighborhood Builders and the Olneyville Collaborative, are seeking volunteers for the Trail of Tricks and Treats, taking place on Saturday, October 28.

Volunteers will help set up, paint faces, decorate pumpkins, serve refreshments, and much more. Some will even have the opportunity to help set the mood by coming in costume and creating their own frightening sets — but, not too scary, children will be in attendance.

What: Family Volunteering at the Trail of Tricks and Treats.

When: Saturday, October 28, 2017.

Time: Volunteers arrive at 1:00 p.m. and leave at 5:30 p.m.

Where: Riverside Park, 50 Aleppo Street, Providence, RI 02909.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors and held at the Joslin Community Center,  231 Amherst Street, Providence, RI 02909

November 18: National Family Volunteer Day Literacy Kit Project – Animal Books

Make reading fun and expand children’s home libraries.

Learning to read is the most important predictor of a child’s success; sadly, too many kids struggle with this critical milestone. United Way of Rhode Island is working hard to ensure all children have the tools they need to experience the joy of reading, but we need your help.

Join us Saturday, November 18, as we celebrate National Family Volunteer Day by making literacy kits for children in our local communities. This year’s theme is animal books. Bring a K-3 animal-themed book and use your creativity to create puppets, games, and other props to be used as visual reading aids by families in need.
