Helping working Rhode Islanders.
United Way of Rhode Island helps return millions of dollars in tax refunds to working Rhode Islanders, while also saving them millions more in tax preparation fees. How? Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) initiative.
Through VITA, volunteers help Rhode Islanders, who earn a low to moderate income, prepare their taxes. The IRS trains and certifies each volunteer, so no prior specialized tax knowledge is required. In addition to those preparing taxes, greeters and translators are also needed.
The 23 VITA sites are staffed by English and Spanish speaking volunteers who ensure that individuals who qualify for important tax credits — such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit — receive them.
